This one was an interesting shoot that I got contacted for. A local “Police” tribute band wanted to do some custom photos to replicate a few popular photos of “The Police”. (you know, that band with Sting and those other guys). We picked out four specific photos and I got the chance to really analyze the lighting situation in each of them.
The guys I was meeting up with worked with their own wardrobe and makeup person to get their look right and when I arrived they were ready to go. I set up my portable studio kit and arranged the lights to mimic what we saw in the two black and white photos and I think the end result came out pretty great.
The next few shots were a little more difficult as they were mimics of two well known album covers. The first one I knew I could pull off with a single shot, but because of the color needed for the light, and the background, I opted for a green screen shoot.
I took this into Photoshop and tweaked the color to pull off the orange lighting. Got rid of the background and created the iconic triangle and gradient shapes.
For the next one, there was just no getting around the fact that the original was a composite image. So I shot a few solo versions of the guys with the green screen again.
These were taken into Photoshop and again, removed the background, tweaked the color to give it that blue look, and then stacked together to create the final image.
Once we were finished shooting, I felt a little bad about spending all that time on just 4 images, so I offered them up some simple portrait shots for them to use for promotion stuff. Check out the images below for the full gallery.
